A Bride and Flower Girls – 1939

Today’s photo is of a bride with her flower girls dated April 11, 1939. I think the girl on the left is probably old enough to pass as a junior bridesmaid. I was one at at age 11 (those photos possibly coming someday…maybe).

A little bit in love with the frame that’s been penciled in around this wedding photo dated 1934.

V&A Wedding Dresses Exhibition 1775-2014

An exhibition of wedding dresses ranging from 1775 to the present day is going to be on at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England May 3rd, 2014 – March 15, 2015.

Look at this dress with gorgeous bell sleeves from the 1930s! It was designed by Norman Hartnell who was later royal dressmaker to Queen Elizabeth.

And here it is on the bride herself:

You can read all about her first marriage, divorce, remarriage and even more infamous divorce here.

Also be sure to check out the V&A’s Here Come the Brides blog (I’ll be adding it to the blogroll). Especially this article about the restoration of a 1960s headdress.

Of course the museum is hosting a range of events to go along with the exhibit and some start as soon as next week! Do you think I can get my teleportation device working that quickly? No? Well, maybe sometime before it ends in May of next year. Certainly, if you’re lucky enough to be in the area, be sure to stop in (and let me know all about it!). More information on tickets and events is available here.
